In-Hospital Outcomes with Transfemoral Versus Transapical Access for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease
Highlights
- • The optimal access site for TAVR in patients with PAD is unclear.
- • Among 6672 hospitalizations with PAD undergoing TAVR, in-hospital mortality was similar in TF-TAVR versus TA-TAVR.
- • TF-TAVR was associated with less cardiogenic shock, AKI, and major bleeding, and shorter hospital stay.
- • TF-TAVR was associated with 3-fold increase in vascular complications and higher incidence of pacemaker insertion.
- • Further studies are warranted to explore alternative non-femoral access site for TAVR in patients with PAD.
Abstract
Background
There is a paucity of data regarding outcomes with transfemoral (TF) versus transapical (TA) access for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD).
