Aortic stenosis treatment has been revolutionized with the introduction of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), with the most recently published data showing that TAVR may be superior to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) for patients at low surgical risk. At the same time, TAVR has been simplified over the last few years, leading to the so-called minimalist approach. These two factors in combination with the incremental training and experience of interventionalists have enabled TAVR procedures to diffuse to hundreds of hospitals in the United States and Europe. Currently, almost 80% of TAVR procedures are performed through a transfemoral (TF) approach.
