The impact of financial incentives to enhance smoking cessation in low-income smokers is unknown. A randomized trial of 805 low-income smokers has indicated that financial incentives of up to $1,650 were more effective in promoting abstinence at 7-days as well as 3, 6, and 18 months.
The efficacy of a theory-based weight loss intervention delivered through a variety of social media tools such as Facebook and text messaging has not been assessed. A randomized study of obese college students aged 18-35 years has indicated that social and mobile technologies did not enhance sustained weight reductions over a period of 24 months.
